Artist Statement
I am deeply inspired by the divine symbolism, the spiritual nature and the ancient history that birds carry.Through out history birds have been thought of as a supernatural link between Heaven and Earth because of their connection to the sky. I choose to depict my birds in both a confrontational gaze as well as a more free and expressive manner thus evoking feelings and connections between the viewer and the subject painted.
These birds appear to be exploding and dispersing into space and forming suggestions of flying birds and an energetic layering of words and thoughts breaking beyond their three dimensional bodies. By combining my love for abstract expressionism and detailed realism within the painting, I am able to achieve a symbolic sense of the physical body and the freedom of the soul.
